Mark Leonard Modine, 51, of North Haven, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 15, 2021. Son of Suzanne Modine and Theodore Modine (Wife Sheila) Brother of Michael (wife Christy), Joseph and Nancy Modine and the late David Modine. Brother-in-law of Karen Modine. Uncle of Morgan, Michael, Lauren and Jeff. Step- Brother of Anna Houle. To know him, was to love him. Mark touched so many lives in so many ways. His education and passion for health and fitness training helped countless people of all ages understand the importance of eating right and working out. He graduated from Central Connecticut State Universality with a degree in Health Science and Sports Training, which led him to enter the competitive field of bodybuilding. Mark competed on many professional levels, having won several bodybuilding titles throughout New England. Mark also pushed the limits of fitness, having competed in the Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii, where he broke a record and finished the race in 7 hours and 38 minutes. Mark began serving the community of Woodbridge as the fitness trainer for the JCC. He had countless clients of all ages train with him. Mark’s fitness training clients took him to many parts of the country, as well as local gyms and fitness centers. Mark had a heart of gold and loved helping others. He became an EMT, which then led him to the job of his dreams as Police Officer with the town of Woodbridge. He was presented with many accolades and accommodations from the town, but nothing made Mark prouder, then to serve as a D.A.R.E instructor. He enjoyed working with young children in town teaching them about Drug safety and the importance of making good choices. Mark was a huge Pittsburg Steelers fan. He and his brother Mike attended the last super bowl game they won. He loved crazy hard rock music, hunting and fishing, especially the annual salmon fishing trip to Pulaski, New York with his brothers and friends. Mark loved his Fatboy Harley and took great pride in his big white Ford truck. His favorite movie was “A Few Good Men”. Everytime he would watch it he would recite the entire court scene better than Jack Nicholson himself! Mark was extremely handy and could build or fix just about anything. Everyone knew where Mark lived as his lawn looked like an advertisement for Scotts Lawn Care Products! In the end he would want everyone to remember his infectious smile and huge heart. He would want to be remembered for his charismatic personality and his ability to make everyone feel welcomed to the party! He was a loving son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend who will be missed beyond limits and remembered for all of these things and more.

Rest In Peace Mark. Having you in our family was always nice to see you at family functions. You were also my trainer for a while and made me a healthier person. Always had a smile and hug for Aunt Sandy. You will be thought of with a smile. God bless you always.

Mark always had a smile on his face. When I would see him he greated me with a hug and a kiss. Mark lived a full life that many men only dream of. Marks life was cut far too short.
He had so much more to contribute to so many.
God keep him close.
To MIKE, Christy and family and friends of Mark, Our sincere condolences to all. A most severe and profound loss as Mark was always a pleasure and joy to be around. Mark will be missed by all. Ron and Ger Acampora
To the Modine Family and friends, my sincere condolences to all of you. Mark was definitely too young to leave us all and he will be deeply missed even though we haven’t had the chance to spend much time together in quite a while. My memories of the times that he and I shared are priceless and will remain with me forever. I’m so proud of his accomplishments and know that he touched so many lives. May you rest in Peace Mark…..
To the Modine family my prayers and condolences to a great young man. Have not seen him in a while but his memory will live on in my heart. Generous to a fault. May his soul Rest In Peace and join the angels in heaven. Blessings to the family. Salvatore A Consiglio Jr. NHFD Retired.
Growing up (although a couple of years younger) we all knew the Modine Brothers! We younger guys were in awe of them – they always seemed so much more mature, tough and had cool bikes! Fast forward 35 years later and I discover (through a couple of burglar alarms at my home in Woodbridge) that Mark is a police officer. About two years ago my daughter broke her arm at a local Woodbridge park. She was in intense pain, screaming, crying – Mark was the first to respond. He quickly calmed the situation, positioned her arm in a way to release some pressure/pain and ultimately took control of the EMT’s when they arrived (as they were just standing around). As parents we were enormously grateful for Marks professionalism, calm and compassionate demeanor and leadership. And much like when I was 11 – I was once again in awe of a Modine brother.
While never close with Mark – please know that this Woodbridge family appreciated Mark and respected him for the his caring professionalism. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved him. RIP Mark.
My deepest condolences on the passing of Mark. A couple of years out of high school I volunteered to teach CCD through my parish, St. Barnabas. I was a little nervous with the 4th grade class I was assigned, but I will not forget Mark and how his kind spirit, respectfulness, joyfulness and easy smile made this undertaking doable. I was doubly thrilled when he and his brother Michael were slotted to serve as alter boys at our wedding (40 years ago last month). With thoughtful prayer, may God wrap his arms around Mark as he enters into his kingdom, and may He bring you all comfort and peace in the days to come.
To the entire Modine family; I am so very sorry to hear of Marks’ passing! As a pre-teenager thru teenage years I knew Mark was “special “ and was destined for some sort of greatness. By what I’ve read about him, he was truly a gifted man that touched so many lives positively that the world must be a little more sad at his passing; but so many must be honored to have known him! RIP Mark and god speed to the family members and friends as you mourn.
To Mike, Family and Friends of Mark, I am so sorry for Mark’s passing. Though I had moved out of state and lost touch, I still thought of Mark often. My family and I have so many great memories. My parents loved the one guy I wasn’t dating. Mark and I hung out alot in high school and into college. We were always laughing and having fun. Mark had a warm heart and always gave the greatest hugs. I am so glad to have learned how much he gave of himself and how he touched so many people. You will be so missed. Rest in peace Mark.
My heart continues to break, your smile could light up the room. I will forever cherish our time together- the BB concert, Jason Aldean songs and the time you pulled me over for fun and a good laugh and the endless amounts of sushi. 😥💔 I will miss your laugh
My deepest condolences to your family. I remember Mark when he was a high schooler and I was on North Haven P.D. My late husband was an assistant track coach at North Haven HS and I believe their paths crossed. As a retired North Haven P.D. officer and DARE instructor, I was delighted to see that Mark grew to serve a wonderful community like Woodbridge as a police officer and DARE Instructor. I do remember his infectious smile and kind outgoing personality. Certainly his gifts to all will be missed.
What a shame to hear about Mark. His smile lit up a room. Hopefully him and Dave are causing trouble up there and watching over all of us. Hugs to his family and our deepest sympathy.
