Mary Maturo Powers passed away after a long illness on July 14, 2021, surrounded by her husband and children. So unreal to be writing this…
Mary was a Saint ❣️ She shared the same birthday as me and was a good friend and co-worker.
She was like a second mother to all her “Babies” as she called them at Morse.
Most Importantly she was a proud, loving ,Caring & Devoted Wife, Mother, and grandmother who will be missed but never forgotten💔
Dear Megan, I was so sad to read about your Mom’s passing. Each time I
saw her she was so warm and friendly. It was so evident that her family,
especially the Grands, brought her complete joy. My thoughts and prayers are
with you and all your family. Where there is deep sadness there
was great love.
I am so sorry to hear this! Mary was such a great library patron and I will miss her smile and nice conversations.
My condolences to each of you- Heaven has gained quite an Angel
💔🙏🏻
Dear Rusty, Alby (and Emily), Megan (and Tony), Brianna ( and Sam) grandchildren and Terry,
Our most sincere condolences. We need not tell you how special this beautiful woman was as you shared that privilege with her. However, her kindness and loyalty to those who were fortunate to be among her friends was a gift that we were so grateful and honored to have been a small part of. Our prayers to all of you as you navigate through this terrible time. Though Heaven is brighter, our world has been dimmed.
With sadness,
Steve and Laurel Vollono

My thoughts and memories of Mrs. Powers have always been flooded with tones of kindness, good-heartedness, joy, and love. Had a way of making me feel warm and I know the same can be said fir my siblings. She was always so nice and so present in my years of CCD classes alongside her daughter, Megan. Christmas Eve masses will never be the same. My love goes out to the Powers family and especially Megan, Briana, Albe, and Mr. Powers. Know that in my world she will be remembered so fondly and warmly. RIP.

We felt a real loss when we heard of Mary’s passing and want to express our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to her dear family. We worked with Mary for many years at SNET. Since then we would get together for breakfast regularly at “Pop’s”. We will always remember Mary as a loving, warm and caring spirit, not to forget her genuine smile. Thank you for your friendship and all the memories we hold dearly.
We didn’t get to say goodbye – but her spirit will always be with us. Our friendship is forever and she will be in our hearts forever.
With Love,

Our deepest condolences to the family. Words cannot express our sadness. Will miss her warm smiles and hugs. I fondly recall all those Nutcracker recitals and Fourth of July gatherings we shared. Farewell my frIend.
I knew Mary for only a short period of time, unfortunately. However her strength, determination, and ability to keep her sense of humor even under extreme medical challenges was admired. What I will remember most about Mary and her time at Gaylord was her beautiful smile and the deep love for her family. You will be missed.
We are so sorry for your loss. Mary was a great friend. I will miss her great sense of humor and our conversations on politics and our families. We had so much in common. I know she is with her loved ones in heaven and is at peace.
Love,
Rosemary and Mark Mancini
Mary ran the Morse College Master’s office all four years that I was at Yale. She was such a distinct and loving presence in our community and made sure that we students had everything we needed to have a great time, whatever the occasion. Mary always made me feel like someone was looking out for me, which was a great comfort at what for me felt like a very big university. She and the head of the Dean’s office, Sandy, were a fun pair. They were even kind enough to take me and my parents out for lunch at graduation, which we still talk about to this day. I can still hear Mary’s encouraging voice in my head even now, ten years out from graduation. She will be missed. Sending love to her sweet family, who she always bragged about.
Mary was the heart and soul of Morse for the three years I lived in Morse and a source of encouragement and humor in all the years since graduating. Her down-to-earth personality and her loving and gentle teasing made me feel right at home. She loved to work with students and that passion really shone when she spoke of all the Master’s Aides, alumni and family friends from year’s past. I visited campus several times over the past decade and always made a trip to check in with Mary, introduce her to my partner, and hear about the latest Morse news. It was an honor to be in Mary’s circle and I feel lucky to have known her. I’m ordering pizza and toasting her this eve in London. She will be remembered!
Our deepest condolences to Rusty and family. She was a truly, lovely person.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all. I continue to think of all of you with all my heart.
