Mary Sudol Sweeney, of North Branford, entered into eternal peace on July 28, 2017 at CT Hospice in Branford. She was the loving wife of the late James J. Sweeney. She was born in New Haven and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agata Gurdak Sudol. Mary was a kind and gentle soul with a constant smile that brightened the lives of many. She greatly enjoyed watching every episode of the Judge Judy show, window shopping at the mall, praying and saying her daily rosary, as well as reminiscing about the good old days; with fond memories of growing up on View Street and working at the A.C. Gilbert Company. Throughout her life, Mary found much happiness from spending time with her family, and she relished the special bond that she shared with her daughter, as well as their weekly trips to the pet store to see the puppies, and occasional visits to the casino where they unsuccessfully tried their luck on the penny machines. Mary is survived by her sons Dennis (June) Sweeney, Kevin (Sophie) Sweeney, and her daughter Karen Sweeney. She also leaves four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Also surviving Mary, are her sisters Helen Dykun, Anna Malicki, and Stephanie Kane. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Frank, Joseph, Stanley and Walter Sudol. The Sweeney family would like to extend their thanks, to the many nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, art staff, volunteers, and clergy at CT Hospice, for the wonderful, loving care that they provided to their mother during her stay there.

In honor of Mary’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Mary also requested that everyone reading this today, please consider taking the time to brighten someone’s day, by sharing a smile or doing a kindness for them in her memory. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
