Maureen O’Brien, of North Haven, CT passed peacefully with her beloved husband and daughters by her side on June 18, 2021 after a brief illness. Born in the Bronx, NY on December 28, 1940, she was 80 years old. She leaves her husband John O’Brien after a honeymoon that lasted 60 years. Their love story was destined the first night they met and the days from their first moment together until their last were spent as each other’s greatest source of love and laughter. Always together, they celebrated all of life’s most precious adventures.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jeanne (and Tim) Murphy of Cheshire, Beth (and Michael) Vogel of Madison and Christine (and Mark) Marien of Old Saybrook; grandchildren Collin Murphy (and fiancé Alyssa Mirmina) of Nashville, TN, Aiden Murphy of Salem, MA and Sean Bromley of Venice, CA; sister-in-law Patricia Holland of Pearl River, NY; cousins Joan Connelly of Warwick, NY and Gabriel Armstrong of Wilton, CT.  She is also survived by many additional relatives in Ireland.  She was preceded in death by her brother John Flynn, niece Debra Flynn, sister-in-law Mary Fallon and her cousin (and childhood “sister”) Patricia Moriarty.  She leaves behind many friends who have made an everlasting impression on her heart and are considered among her closest family.  Larry and Theresa Blake, Jane Cragan and Louise Anderson have been part of her deepest laughs and most treasured memories.  Small in stature she was mighty in her love and devotion to the big circle of family and friends who kept her heart so abundantly full including many beloved nieces and nephews including the Flynns, Hollands, Fallons and Dohertys.  From early spring until fall she was a passionate home gardener and could be found watering her flowers, herbs or vegetables with a green thumb that could make any plant magically flourish. When fall and winter arrived, she transitioned her passion and loyalty to the New York Giants and could be reached at home, cheering for her team on any Sunday they were playing.  Until her recent illness she worked at Elderly Housing Management and as their longest working employee, they became a part of her extended family-especially Kathy Johnson, whose kindness, humor, and fun nature in the last several years made it even harder to consider retirement.

The visiting hours will be on Friday, July 9th from 4 to 7 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home.  Family and friends are invited to go directly to the Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Saturday morning at 10:00 to attend a Mass of Christian Burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery.
