To Mauro’s family,
My deepest condolences on Mauro’s passing.
I was lucky enough to have Mr. Suraci for a middle school PE teacher in the NHPS system.
I became a physical education teacher and later supervised the PE/Health teachers in the New Haven Public School System.
Mr. Suraci teaching influenced me to seek Physical Education as a career.
Truly a great man who gave positive direction to the students he taught.
Please know that Mauro and his family will continue to be in my daily thoughts and prayers.
God Bless,

So sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Suraci. He was an awesome Phys Ed teacher at Orchard Hill Junior High School and a great football coach. He really made Phys Ed class fun. Good times! Condolences to his family. R.I.P. Mr. Sursci.
Mr Suraci was a powerful positive influence. He was my PE teacher in North Haven middle school. We had a class called project adventure that involved tree climbing zip lines and more adventurous tasks. I was so afraid of heights but determined to climb and Mr. Suraci gave me my wings! I think about it to this day the advice and encouragement he gave me to just let go of the fear and fly.
Thank you Mr. Suraci 🙏
My prayers and deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I will never forget him.
Our deepest sympathy.
Mauro was a great guy and a great neighbor.

To Mr. Suraci’s Family,
I am a retired Hamden Police Sergeant! However, in 1972, before I became a police officer I wanted to be a physical education teacher and did my student teaching under the great Mauro Suraci! What a mentor he was in so many ways! He taught he not only the skills of teaching, but of how to be a man in many ways which carried me through my entire life! I hope this makes you feel pretty good since I’m now a 70 year old grandfather with 4 wonderful grandchildren of my own! Thanks Mauro for the lessons you taught me!!
To the Suraci family,
I’m very sorry for your loss. Mauro was an extraordinary person. He was my teacher and my coach. He was a great mentor to me when I started playing ball in the early seventies. I remember the words during practice to this day, “Carrano keep your head up” You will not find teachers of this character anymore.
My sympathy’s to the family of this great man!

Dear Barbara so sorry to hear the sad news. We have many memories of our time at the lake when you were our neighbors there. I remember Mauro always sharing the flowers he cultivated and the time he put on his diving gear to help Bruce find his glasses in the lake. Our sympathy to you, Edward, Brian, Barbara and their families.
To the Suraci family,
My sincere Condolences to you and your family during this difficult time. I have many great memories of Mauro as he was my teacher, coach & mentor for 5 years at North Haven High and I also had the pleasure coaching with him for track & field. He was a great inspiration & influence to me along with all the other PE teachers which is why I pursued a teaching career for 35 years in Physical Education & Health. I also had the honor of working for him at the Paradise Country Club as a lifeguard. My prayers are with you and your family.
