Michael “Gennaro” Massimino, 88, of East Haven, formerly of Reeds Gap Road East, Northford for many years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving grandsons by his side.  He was the beloved husband of the late Marion Coello Massimino.  Michael was born in Anacapri, Italy on May 19, 1932 and was the son of the late Miguel and Filomena Viva Massimino.  He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean war.  Michael had worked as a truck mechanic for many years and was the proud owner of Massimino’s Café.  He was a member of the Teamsters Local #443 and a charter member of the Umberto Club.  Michael enjoyed dinners, dancing, singing and being the life of the party. Most of all he enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family, friends, and loved ones. Known also as Poppy Mike, Michael was a true gentleman who was devoted to his family and friends of which he loved unconditionally. He will truly be missed by all those who had the honor of knowing him. Father of Michael A. Massimino and Mary Jane Massimino.  Loving and devoted grandfather to the lights of his life, Michael Massimino (Julieth), Anthony Massimino (Stephanie Ciccolo) and Mario Massimino (Nicole).  Great-Grandfather of Giulietta Rose and Luca Gennaro.  Also survived by his former daughter-in-law Lisa Amato and his loving companion Gloria Daly. Predeceased by his twin brother Frank Massimino and sisters Tecla Marcondi and Mary DeLucia.

The visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning, May 7th at 10:15. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, 29 Wooster Place, New Haven at 11:00.  Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.
