Nicholas S. Raccio, 92, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at The Landing and was finally reunited with his beloved wife, the late Eleanor Palmucci Raccio. Together they were the perfect pair and loved each other beyond measure. Nick was born in New Haven on October 25th, 1930, and was the son of the late Stefano and Josephine Riccitelli Raccio. He served his country faithfully in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War as part of the Battles of Inchon and Chosin Reservoir and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the United Nations, and National Defense Service Medals and was a recent recipient of Quilts of Valor. Nick proudly worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association, in management, for over 30 years until his retirement. Loving brother of Joanne Broga and the late Mary Martine, Sylvia Borrelli, Angelo, and Alfred “Sonny” Raccio. Brother-in-law of Irene DiTallo. His sister, sister-in-law, many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and caring friends will truly miss his joyful demeanor and amazing smile. Everyone who met him, loved Uncle Nick and will miss him greatly!
The visiting hours will be Tuesday morning, October 17th from 9:30 to 11:30at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven at 12:00 PM. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Quilts of Valor Foundation ID #23265P.O. Our VCH, Veterans Coffee House meets monthly at the Wallingford Senior Center which not only gives our Vets the chance to socialize but also take part in enjoying a guest speaker which are related to military topics. We were founded in 2017 by Mark Halliday and Robert Boucher. Our Veterans are an exceptional group and our intention is to offer assistance and support.
At this very difficult time, our group would like to honor the loss of Nicholas Raccio as a fallen brother. Our military Veterans send out their heartfelt condolences to the Raccio family and friends. As an U.S. Marine Veteran, he had joined an elite group of honorable men and women and our Country will forever be in his debt.
