Nicola M. (Nick) Iannone, 74, resident of North Haven for 72 years, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden, with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Jane Taravella Iannone.  Nick was born in New Haven on November 3, 1943, and was the son of the late Dominic and Angela Piscitelli Iannone.  Father of Lisa Dorau (John Mierzwinski) and Jessica Iannone.  Loving grandfather of Jayna Dorau,  Adam Dorau, Lindsay Knight and Aliza Knight.  Brother of Sandra Foley (Thomas Gersdorf) and Gale Iannone (Gary Takach).  Nick earned both a B.S. in 1965 and an M.S. in 1969 from Central Connecticut State University, and later a Sixth-Year Certificate.  He taught Industrial Arts/Tech Ed first at Cheshire High School and later at North Haven High School until his retirement in 2000.  He was Past President of the NHEA, Life Member of the CEA & NEA, on the Board of Directors of the North Haven Historical Society & Museums, and Past Master of The Mayflower Society of North Haven.  Nick was also a Master Mason of Corinthian Lodge #63 A.F. & A.M. (Senior Steward); Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #103 A.F. & A.M.; a 32nd Degree Mason of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Member of York Rite Franklin Chapter No. 2 R.A.M. (Royal Arch Captain), Harmony Council No. 8 R. & S.M. (Captain of the Guard), and New Haven Commandery No. 2 Knights Templar; and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Research A.F. & A.M. (Junior Deacon).  He was President of the Corinthian Temple Building Association and a member of the New Haven Temple Building Association. Some notable awards he received are 1994 CT Tech Ed Teacher of the Year, Scottish Rite Red Cap Meritorious Service Award, and Order of DeMolay Hats Off Award.  A lifelong woodworking enthusiast, Nick designed and built pieces of furniture as well as many other wooden items in his workshop.  He enjoyed helping family, friends and the community using those skills.  Nick took great interest in being a teacher and guide to younger generations.  His involvement went far beyond the classroom.  He was the NHHS Sachem Yearbook Advisor for many years, designed and built sets for theatrical productions within the North Haven School system, facilitated the Quinnipiac Native American program for the North Haven Historical Society 3rd Grade tours, and worked on the John Grover Wyman Park (Blakeslee Avenue) playscape.  Nick also mentored several Boy Scouts from Troop 805 as they pursued and ultimately achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  He was a devoted grandfather who took immense pride in the achievements and accomplishments of his grandchildren.  He was their greatest fan and never missed a school performance, sporting event or awards ceremony and gave them inspiration for countless school projects.  But “Grampie’s” true joy came simply from family time.  The family would like to offer a sincere “Thank You” to the staff of MidState Medical Center for their wonderful care and attention.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 7th, at 11:00 AM in the New Haven Masonic Temple, 285 Whitney Avenue, New Haven.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made (In Memory of Nicola M.
