I was very sad to learn of Ralphs passing. I was a co-worker of his at J. Press for 28 years. He used to say we didn’t make a lot of money at the store but we sure had a lot of fun. He was right about that. Ralphie was a lot of fun and I miss those ” good ole days”.
There was a time when Ralph had to go to the new Washington DC store until a full time tailor was hired. Steve Hurayt, another tailor in at J.Press, said to me ” Now that Ralphie is in DC, I guess we’ll have to elect him senator!”
So Ralph became known as the Senator from then on. We sure did have a lot of laughs. He tried to memorize the lines from the old Abbott and Costello routine “Who’s on First” We would turn on a Yankee game on the radio and he’d say to me “Who’s pitching for the Yankees today?” All I’d have to say was no, who’s on first and he would start laughing. A lot of good memories!
I’m sorry I couldn’t be at the wake but my job at FedEx had other ideas.
The Senator might not have known who was on first, but he was an all-star in my book.
My thoughts and condolences go out to the entire family.
