Richard A. Broga, Sr., 84, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Joanne Raccio Broga. Richard was born to Arthur Eugene and Florence Schock Broga in New Haven on New Years’ Eve, 1936. Father of Richard (Janice) Broga, Jr. and Lisa (Kevin) Grondin. Grandfather of Deanna Broga, Andi and Apollo Grondin. Brother of Arthur (Nancy) Broga and the late Doris (John) Keeney. Brother-in-law of Angelo, Nicholas and Louise Raccio. Pre-deceased by in-laws Alfred, Eleanor and Ann Raccio, Mary and Earl Martine and Sylvia and Tony Borrelli. He also loved his many nieces and nephews and his adopted family Laura McCarthy (Bruce Gerstman), Kate (Collin) McBurney and Stephen McCarthy as children/grandchildren and was like a Great-Grandfather to Declan McBurney. He had worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association, North Haven for many years and spent much time at Borrelli Farm working alongside family. A quiet and gentle man, Richard’s favorite days were spent with his family, who he loved unconditionally. He so enjoyed watching Apollo play football, being with Andi sharing her artwork, enjoying softball games, listening to music performed by Deanna and/or Richard, visits with the Grondin family, laughing along with the McCarthy/McBurney family, and visiting Tropicana Field to see his Tampa Bay Rays.
The visiting hours will be Monday morning, April 19th from 9:00 to 11:00 at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Service will follow at 11:30 in the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
