Richard F. Murray, Sr., 80, of North Haven, formerly of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1st, 2023, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Clancey Murray for 57 years. Richard was born in New Haven on December 2,1942 and was the son of the late William P. and Mary McNulty Murray. He served his country faithfully in the National Guard, was a firefighter for the city of West Haven for 36 years and later a security guard for the British Art Museum at Yale University. Richard was a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 1198 and a former member of the West Haven Elks #1537. He was a N.Y. Giants, N.Y. Mets and UConn Basketball Fan. But his greatest joy in life was being the “Biggest Fan” for his grandchildren in everything they did. Father of Richard F. (Maria) Murray- (Ret. Capt. AFD), Scott (Paula) Murray and Tara (Ed) Conneely. Beloved grandfather of Joseph, Ryan, Ashley and Haley Murray and Hannah, Caitlin, and Connor Conneely. Brother of Roger (Frances) Murray- (Ret. AFD) and Margaret (Richard) Dziamalek. The visiting hours will be on Friday evening, Jan. 6th, from 4 to 7 pm in the Haven’s Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish in St. Francis Cabrini Church, 57 Pond Hill Road, North Haven, Saturday morning at 10:00 Am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

I really tried to squeeze in getting to North Haven tonight, but just can’t. I also have events tomorrow morning, so I am unable to attend to mass also.

I’m so sorry to hear that Mr.Murray passed away.Once the Murray’s moved to simos lane in West Haven they became a big part of my childhood years.Growing up with Richard Jr, Scott and younger Tara was great time .The Murray’s house was always opened to all of us neighborhood kids (except this one time) which I will save for another time.i just want to say thank you to big Rich Murray that you will be greatly missed by not only your family and me but everyone that you came apon over the years!!!
