Robert Anthony Appicelli, 85, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22nd, 2021, at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Gloria H. Hoyt Appicelli.  Bob was born in New Haven on May 21, 1936 and was the son of the late Salvatore and Loretta Durso Appicelli.  He served his country faithfully in the US Naval Reserves for 38 years during the Vietnam era retiring as a Captain on October 1, 1991.  Bob obtained his BS degree in 1958, MS degree in 1968 and CAS in 1975 & 1978 all from Southern Connecticut State University.  He worked as a Guidance Counselor for Bethel Middle School.  Previous he was a teacher for the New Haven and East Haven School Systems, Guidance Counselor for West Haven Public School System.  Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus Mount Carmel Council #3105, member of several military organizations and for many years a board member of NOAH.  He was a Boston Red Sox and UCONN Men & Womens basketball fan.  Bob loved to travel, was a faithful communicant at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church since 1972 where he was an active participant in many of the church groups as well being a Eucharistic minister. Father of Michael R. (Diane) Appicelli, Gregory S. (Justine) Appicelli, and Paul T. (fiancé Kendell Klein) Appicelli.  Brother of William F. (Maryann) Appicelli.

The visiting hours will be Monday, July 26th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden on Tuesday morning, July 27th at 11:00. Full military honors will be rendered in front of the church immediately following the mass.  Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Food Bank, 2 Research Pkwy, Wallingford, CT 06492.
