Robert “Bob” L. Sandagata, 74, of Wallingford passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Yale New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to Ann Madigan Sandagata. Bob was born in New Haven on September 26, 1942 to the late Stephen and Jennie Colavolpe Sandagata. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University, his Master’s degree and 6th year from Fairfield University and his EdD from NOVA University. Bob worked as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor for the New Haven Public Schools; later at multiple administrative roles at ACES in New Haven and Hamden; was Director of Student Support Services for the Bridgeport Public Schools; was Assistant Principal at O’Brien Technical High School and later was the Principal at the Henry Abbott Technical High School in Danbury. Bob was a member of the CT Teacher’s Association and the National Federation of Teachers. He enjoyed cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and recently developed an interest in Yoga. But most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandson Connor. Father of Michelle Sandagata, Melissa Sandagata, and Robert “Robb” (Emily) Sandagata. Proud grandfather of Connor Sandagata. Brother of Dominic “Mickey” (Ann) Sandagata, Joseph Sandagata, Jeannette Robinson and the late Stephanie Criscuolo. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by his sister-in-law Sandra Sandagata and brother-in-law James Criscuolo.
The visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Friday morning at 11:30 to attend a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JDRF (Curing Type 1 Diabetes).
