Robert R. Mortimer, age 86 of East Haven, formerly of North Haven, and beloved husband to Francine Pappacoda Mortimer, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2018 at Connecticut Hospice with his loving family by his side. Born on November 2, 1932, in New Haven, he was the son of the late George and Viola Bellard Mortimer. In addition to his wife, Francine, of 45 years, he is survived by his children, son Robert (Rose) Mortimer of West Haven, son Jeffrey (Rebecca) Mortimer of East Hampton and daughter Jennifer Thomas of Derby, Connecticut. He is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren-Samantha, Robert, Dylan, Clara, Brooklyn, Mackenzie, Ethan, Emma and Ryan. He was predeceased by his brother Edward and his son Gary Mortimer. Robert grew up in New Haven and graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War stationed in Berlin, Germany, working as a high-speed radio operator. Robert received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration majoring in accounting from Quinnipiac College in 1959. He played on Quinnipiac’s basketball team. Robert was employed at Olin Corporation for 35 years in various financial capacities. He joined Olin in 1961 as a research accountant at the Metals Laboratory in New Haven. He held a number of executive accounting positions with the company in New York City as well as New Haven. He transitioned to Olin’s Chemical operations in Stamford where he was later promoted to controller of Olin’s Oil and Gas Division. Upon retiring from Olin he was employed by H&R Block in New Haven for 11 years. Robert was a dedicated little league baseball coach for North Haven’s Max Sinoway league. Robert was an avid Red Sox and UCONN Women’s Huskies Basketball fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and family vacations at Cape Cod and Walt Disney World. Robert was a devoted, loving, kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother.
The visiting hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 1st from 4 to 7 pm at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 Wednesday morning, Jan. 2nd. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CT Hospice, Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
