Ronald Joseph Garbatini, 68, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a courageous two-week battle. He was a loyal, loving husband of 35 years to Joanne (Mastroianni) Garbatini. Ronald was born in New Haven on May 16th, 1955 to Louise (Fronzi) Garbatini and the late Romolo Garbatini. He was a devoted father to Steven (Samantha) Garbatini and Gina (Jason) Carbone and a loving, fun grandfather to Gennaro and Giuliana Carbone. He was a brother to Bruce and Gary Garbatini.
Ronald was a licensed optician for over 40 years at Royal Vision Center, where he developed lifelong friendships. A gentle soul, a man of character, patient, and an amazing family man were some of his strongest attributes. He was an accomplished and gifted woodworker, often described as having “hands of gold”. He was an incredible handyman- fixing practically anything. Tinkering on his 71’ corvette and sharing his love of music with dear friends were some of his favorite pastimes. But his greatest joy was spending quality time with his family and friends. He loved sitting around the Sunday dinner table telling stories from the old neighborhood, discussing sports or just listening to his nieces, nephew and kids share their thoughts and latest news.
A special note of appreciation to the medical staff at Yale New Haven Hospital on the Neuroscience/SICU, 7-1, unit for the exceptional care Ron received. The attentive and around the clock skilled care Ron received is a credit to their profession and most appreciated by the family.
Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven on Saturday morning, Dec. 9th at 10:00. Entombment will follow at the All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yale New Haven Hospital Neuroscience Center Facility Fund, https://givetoynhh.org/adams-neuro-fund or sent to Office of Development, YNHH, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508-1849.
Oh Ron…I don’t know where to begin. Working with you for such a long time and this doesn’t seem real yet. Tomorrow working at Royal will be very difficult. I will miss seeing you in the lab, watching you place orders while talking (and bitching most times), our after Xmas parties and Popeye parking lot talks.
My condolences to Joanne and your family that you loved so much. You were such a fighter to the end and I wish I got to talk to you one more. Love, “Sunshine”
