Sheila Berniere DeMartino, 79, of North Haven, entered into rest peacefully on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael campus with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to Charles E. DeMartino. Sheila was born in New Haven on August 6, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Ret. NoPD Chief Leno T. (Mac) and Bernice E. Toelle Berniere. After graduating from Endicott Junior College in Beverly, MA, Sheila resided in Boston and Colorado before returning to North Haven. Her and her husband owned and operated the former Amber Restaurant in North Haven for many years. Mother of David DeMartino (Shana) and Jeff DeMartino (Sarah). Grandmother of Sydney, Jackson, Charlotte, and Harrison. Sister of Patricia Gray (James) and Nancy Raffile (Skip). Also survived by her sister-in-law Amber DeMartino (John Grasse); her former brother-in-law Roger Bailey (Maryellen); nieces Wendy Peloquin (Lou), Tricia Littlefield, Tara Elliott; nephews Scott Raffile and Brennan Gray (Megan); many great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her stepmother Ginny F. Berniere. Sheila will be remembered for her unconditional love of family, best friends, and animals.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, Inc., Branford, American Cancer Society, Wallingford, Yale-New Haven Pediatric Hospital, New Haven or the Animal Haven, Inc., North Haven. All services will be private

I grew up with Nancy, and knew Sheila as her big sister. I remember when Sheila worked the cash register at Ray’s Food
Center on Washington Ave. in North Haven. So pretty and very friendly. It was a great time growing up, here, with so many wonderful memories. Those memories will help you through, now more than ever. May you rest in peace, Sheila.
