Sotirios (Sal) Vastakis, 71, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Yale New Haven Hospital with his family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of 43 years to Magdaline Lepeniotis Vastakis. Sotirios was born in Doliana, Evrytania, Greece on December 25, 1951 and was the son of the late Konstantinos and Panagiota Haskos Vastakis.  He moved to the United States in 1961 with his parents and two brothers. Sotirios was the owner of multiple businesses over the years, including Country Food Market in Hamden for over 45 years.  He enjoyed gardening, making wine, but most of all, gathering around the table with his family whom he loved unconditionally.   Loving father of Penny (Thodori), Dino, Dimitri (Melissa) and Stephanie Vastakis.  Beloved grandfather of George and Thanasi.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, great nieces, and great nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Christos and Spiros Vastakis.

The visiting hours will be on Friday, June 16th from 5 to 8 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Tower Lane, New Haven on Saturday morning at 10:00 to attend a funeral service and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following. Should friends desire, flowers or memorial contributions may be made to St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church.
