Theresa St-Michel, a longtime resident of North Haven, was born in Drummondville, Quebec, on April 6th, 1934, and passed away at home on Sept 7th, 2019 at the age of 85.
Theresa lost her father when she was 10 years old and started working at Sylvania Lamp Co. at the age of 14 to support her family.
She moved to the USA to marry the love of her life and start a family, despite not knowing any English. She taught herself to speak, read, and write in English to help her family succeed in her new home. She started as a bus monitor for the Nutile Bus Co of North Haven and went on to become a school bus driver until she retired.
Theresa was a long-time active member of the Columbiettes and a devoted member of her church. She was an avid bowler and gardener, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.
She is predeceased by her parents, Hector & Marie (Bourbeau) Malenfant; siblings Helene Lamothe, Gerard & Gisele (Houle) Malenfant; parents-in-laws Amede & Brigitte (Rivard) St-Michel; and siblings-in-law Clarisse (SASV), Huguette (St-Michel) Mathieu, Ulysse St-Michel, Real & Simone (Dupre) St-Michel, Lindor & Berth (Dufresne) St-Michel, Geatan & Murielle (Blanchette) St-Michel, Jean-Claude St-Michel, and Jean-Noel Marcotte.
She is survived by her husband Roch St-Michel; her children Doreen & Daniel LeGrand, Mario, Norman & Stephanie (Girardi) St-Michel, Brigitte St-Michel; her grandchildren Michael LeGrand, Samantha LeGrand, Zoe St-Michael, and Taylor St-Michel; her siblings Henri & Jeannette(Boudreault) Malenfant, Jean-Marie & Louise (Charron) Malenfant, Marie-Marthe Malenfant, Celine & Clement Blanchette; siblings-in-law Madeleine (RHFJ), Carmen (St-Michel) Marcotte, Maria (Caladore) St-Michel, Lucienne (Jodoin) St-Michel, Brothers in-law Maurice LaMothe, Vianney (CSE) St-Michel, and Rolland Mathieu; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven, Saturday morning at 11:30. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
