Thomas Reid, 83, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Arleen Walsh Reid. Son of the late James and Lenore Rothwell Reid, Tom was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1939, which was a very happy time in his life. Tom was a teacher for many years until his retirement. He began coaching football in Stratford and later for Hamden, Amity, and Pace University, but highlight of his career were the years coaching in North Haven. An avid sailor, he owned sailboats his entire life and loved to sail the Long Island Sound. Tom was a marine watercolor artist and showed his paintings in many local shows. He was a member of the St. Andrews Society and loved to celebrate his Scottish heritage. Father of Mary Beth (Chris) Knizeski, Michael (Sharyn) Reid, Pamela (Todd) Mowry and John (Rebecca) Reid. Loving grandfather of Martin Miller, Elle and Lydia Reid.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 565 Shepard Avenue, Hamden on Friday morning, Dec. 30th, 2022 at 11:00. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Dear Arlene,
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
Arlene and family, My deepest sympathies on the loss of your husband, Tom. If you recall, Paul and I had the little green sailboat (the Ladre) next to Tom at Oyster Point Marina. Tom and Paul had many good visits over the years there. Paul passed away in 2008 at age 61.
Tom did a painting of the Ladre and we enjoyed it for years. I had a copy made and now each of Paul’s sons has the painting. Ironically, just this past Sunday I was at my son, Erik’s house in Long Island and he pointed out the painting prominently displayed on the wall of his newly redecorated living room.
May it comfort you to know that memories and art of your husband and father will live on for years to come.

Condolences from the Piccirillo Family. May Tom RIP.
