Timothy V. Cavanaugh, 71, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his family by his side.  He was the loving husband to Deanna Smith Cavanaugh and beloved father of James and David Cavanaugh.  Tim was born in New Haven on September 24, 1950, the son of the late James Cavanaugh and late Helen Phinney Balisciano.  He served his country faithfully in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and worked for the US Post Office in Wallingford until his retirement.  Tim continued to serve his community after his military service.  He was a proud life member of the American Legion, Post 75 and a Past Department Sergeant at Arms.  Tim was also a life member of and Chef de Gare Passe du Grande Voiture du Connecticut du La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux.  He was an active Master Mason, Past Master of Corinthian Lodge No. 63 in North Haven and Secretary of Unity Lodge No. 148 of New Britain.  Tim was a member of Keystone Chapter No. 27 Royal Arch Masons, Hamilton Council No. 9 Royal and Select Masters, St. Elmo Commandery No. 9-Knights Templar, Valley of New Haven and Valley of Bridgeport Scottish Rite and Laurel Forest No. 130- Tall Cedars of Lebanon.  Tim was a Past Patron of Mystic Chapter No. 20 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Monarch of Hejaz Grotto and was currently serving as the Grand Royal Patron of the Grand Court of the Order of the Amaranth in CT.  Tim enjoyed working with the youth of the masonic family.  He was an advisor for Sleeping Giant Chapter, Order of DeMolay in North Haven and Marcus Holcomb Chapter in Southington for many years, and served on the advisory board of New Britain Assembly No. 6, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.  In 2017, he was made an honorary member of the International Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay.  Tim was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, North Haven.

The visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 28th from 5 to 8 PM at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.  A Masonic service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7 PM.  Family and friends are invited to go directly to The State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown on Friday afternoon at 2:00 to attend a religious and committal service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT DeMolay Foundation, 69 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492.
