Vencenzina “Zina” Chillemi Engengro, 101, of Cheshire formerly of Church Street, Hamden for many years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18th, 2023 at Elim Park, Cheshire with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Engengro. Zina was born in New Haven on January 15, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Rosalie Genovese Chillemi. She had worked for Mary’s Bakery for many years. Zina enjoyed playing bingo, taking frequent trips to the casino, baking, and cooking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loved her family unconditionally. Mother of Mark Engengro (Rosemary), Paul Engengro (Kim Knight), David Engengro (Lori). Grandmother of Mark Engengro, Jr. (Melissa), Christina Alt (William), Robert Engengro, Macy Husted (Matt), Michael Engengro, David Engengro (Iris), Kara Engengro (Rob Anderson), Jessica Kuziel (John), Kirstie Coppola and Anthony Coppola . Also survived by nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Predeceased by her siblings, Louise Galanto, Joseph Hill, Salvatore Chillemi and Rosemary McNeil.
The visiting hours will be Thursday morning, June 22nd from 9:00 to 11:00 at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden at 11:30. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or Make-A-Wish Connecticut, 56 Commerce Drive, Trumbull, CT 06611.
So sad to hear of Zina’s passing. Such a beautiful, kind, wonderful person to everyone! She was remarkable. And great in “the kitchen”! She lived a full life of happiness. May she rest peacefully. Thinking of all of you at this time❤️

It was a privilege knowing Zina, Jess had so much love
for her grandmother. Jess shared many stories
about her. Zina will be greatly missed but, she was a lovely woman. The Lord took her home to be with him.
