William “Bill” Piascyk, 72, passed away peacefully at his home on April 17, 2023, after a long illness. Bill was born May 14, 1950, and was the son of the late Theodore Sr. and Lena Piascyk. He graduated from Wilbur Cross High School and worked as a mechanic until he pursued his calling to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a New Haven police officer where he served 30 years. During his career he worked with the once active street crime unit and became a detective where he received several commendations. Bill looked for the humor in every situation and often kept his family and friends laughing, sometimes for hours. As his health failed, he never lost that sense of humor. Bill had a natural ability to repair almost anything. He loved fast cars, and he would spend hours working in his garage on his 1960’s muscle cars, his grand national and he even built composite motorcycles from parts that he acquired from wrecks. His family would like to thank the North Haven Fire/EMS and Police for responding at his times of need. He leaves behind his brother Theodore Piascyk, Jr., and many loving cousins.
The visiting hours will be on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A catholic funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday morning, April 22nd at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Haven Professional Firefighter Charitable Association, P.O. Box 191, North Haven, CT 06473.

Bill, I just talked with you yesterday and suddenly you’re gone. Over the last couple of years we constantly talked about how retirement wasn’t what we thought it would be. Then we take a walk down memory lane and recalled the great times we had with our brother and sister officer..Bill, I know you are in that special place haven has for cops.you are with all those who when before you and your making them laugh like hell!
My friend it has been many years since we seen each other <3 But know I always thought of you often. Especially at our car cruises & shows when we meet again & again. Our days went back to High School & I always wanted you to know that I am so glad we were friends. You made me laugh & always were so kind. Sorry to your family .May you rest in eternal peace My friend Bill ………Roseann
I was sad to hear of the passing of my colleague Billy Piascyk. He was a dedicated member of the New Haven Police Department with a great sense of humor. Billy was the cop who would back you up and be by your side during any dangerous situation. He was also one of my brother Bobby’s, (Detective ( NHPD), loyal and best friend during his long battle with cancer. Billy spent many days with Bobby until his death. Billy and Bobby walked the streets together protecting the citizens of New Haven. His compassion. and respect for our family will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Billy. You and Bobby are now sharing your times and memories together.
With gratitude,
Ron DeNuzzo, NHPD , Retired
Billy and I became friends over 20 years ago. He always came to our restaurant in love to eat fried scallops and coleslaw. We became close friends we used to go out together often and we used to love to play with our cars. Billy was a very funny guy. He made everybody laugh and told us some amazing stories from the police department. Billy will be very well missed. Sorry I couldn’t make the funeral because I was in the hospital myself for quite a long time. I will miss you Billy.
My deepest condolences to the family on the passing of Billy. I have known Billy since 1992. He was one of the first individuals in the New Haven police department when I began working there that offered his friendship to me. He was not just a great friend of soooo many years but was like a brother to me. I will always treasure your memories and the beautiful heart that you had. I know you are in a very special place in heaven sharing stories with those that are also no longer with us.
This is not a goodbye but until we see each other my dearest friend.
