Yoselin Mendez Roman, 57, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2016 surrounded by family and friends in East Hartford. Yoselin was born on March 4, 1959 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to Minerva Mendez and the late Jose Mendez; she grew up in the Dominican Republic before moving to Brooklyn, NY where she graduated from Wingate High School in Brooklyn, NY 1977; later she attend Brooklyn College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History (1991) and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling (1993). Yoselin began her career working for public education in 1991 as a Teacher and then Guidance Counselor, lastly working as a High School Guidance Counselor for New Haven Public Schools since 1996. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, friends and traveling. Yoselin is survived by her son, William Roman and his wife Karen of East Hartford; a daughter Melissa Mendez and grandson Karmelo Mendez both of New Haven; sisters Maria Blanco and Betty Diaz both of New Haven, Sandra Mendez of Florida; brothers Jose Mendez of New Haven, Fabian Mendez and his wife Theresa of Aurora, IL, Levi Mendez and his wife Francia of Middletown, NY; her loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives. Yoselin is predeceased by her dear friend Marcos Colon.

The family will be greeting friends and relatives at a memorial on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the newhavenscholarshipfund.org.
